last night j and i attended the usmc birthday ball.
what a night!
i was very much dreading going earlier in the day because i chose to wear a short dress and it’s a ball so i expected everyone else to be in long formal dresses.
boy was i wrong!
dresses of all lengths were worn. floor length, tea length, knee length, short and shorter!
(i think i saw some strippers there…)
j and i had a great time!
here are some pics of our night:
rocking my short dress!
before we left for the ball
waiting for dinner
i was worried but the food was kinda edible!
my favorite picture of the night
we got to the ball (held at a convention center in downtown new bern–one of my favorite places around here!) around 6pm.
there was a cocktail hour which didn’t mean anything for us because we’re still both underage. unfortunately. i could have used a glass of wine!
the ceremony began at 7pm. it was a little over an hour long. very motivating ceremony. the marine corps band played, the colors were presented, birthday cake was cut (which was actually a very big deal) and the dead were honored. it was really beautiful.
dinner was served around 8pm. as you saw in the lovely picture above we were served beef tenders (not too bad), honey glazed grilled chicken (didn’t try that…looked scary!), mashed potatoes, green beans and carrots. overall not bad for ball food.
we left the ball around 10:30pm and went back to a friend’s house for an after ball party.
the birthday ball not only represents the marine corps birthday but also the birthday of every marine and marines feel the need to get drunk to celebrate so there was a wholeeeeeee lot of booze at the after party but i’m glad we went.
so there you have it!
your very own sneak peak into a usmc birthday ball!
