i’m finding it way too easy to get wrapped up in my schedule/my lack of free time/the things that stress me out.
instead of laying around on my easy days, i took advantage of a (rare!!!) free afternoon and spent it with my favorite guy.
i grabbed sandwiches from my favorite spot (a surprisingly good shop attached to a gas station…) and met j for lunch.
it was a beautiful october afternoon so we found a park on base and had a little picnic!
it was exactly what i needed.
some down time/peace and quiet/time together/the great outdoors just really hit the spot.
i’m so thankful for moments like these when i’m able to slow down & enjoy exactly where i’m at.

“i’m so glad i live in a world where there are octobers.” –l.m. montgomery
you got that right lady!
october is one of my favorite months.
the color changes, the crisp air, pumpkin EVERYTHING!
i just really love autumn.
last weekend j and i went to new bern’s mum fest and wandered around a little there.
there were a lot of vendors and a gross amount of fair food which we weren’t really feeling.
we did a lap of the fest then ate a delicious lunch at one of the restaurants downtown.
after lunch we stopped by the farmer’s market and stocked up on some local produce.
then…we did my favorite fall activity.
we picked pumpkins!
there isn’t an actual pumpkin farm in our area but one of the churches downtown set up a little pumpkin patch.
that guy checking out the pumpkins is pretty cute too 😉
on the hunt for the most perfect pumpkins
we discovered it’s really hard to find a perfect pumpkin…
so we lowered our expectations and brought home 5 perfectly imperfect ones.
can’t wait to go pumpkin picking next year!
autumn 2014, you’re turning out to be one for the books.
what are some of your autumn traditions?
leave me a note here or on the facebook page.
my little family of three has grown!
by four paws!
recently i’ve been volunteering with colonial capital humane society, an awesome rescue organization in our area.
while volunteering i feel head over heels in love with this sweetheart.
after many hours of begging, j caved and agreed to bring this baby home.
ace is currently our foster dog.
he and leo absolutely love each other so it’s very possible that his furever home will be with us!
he’s making himself right at home and is earning an even bigger spot in our hearts.
welcome home ace!
it’s a known fact that leonidas augustus is a spoiled boy.
like really really spoiled.
i’ve been in a mad crazy pumpkin baking kick so i obviously had to bake something for the furbaby!
this is one of my very favorite treats to bake for him and our other furry friends.
it’s easy to make and they actually taste pretty good!
(yes, i tried them. all the ingredients are human friendly so they’re a-ok to eat!)
-2 1/2 c whole wheat flour
-1 1/4 c pumpkin puree
-1/4 c creamy peanut butter
-1/2 t cinnamon
-preheat oven to 350.
-mix all ingredients.
-from here you can make drop cookies or roll out the dough and cut into shapes.
totally your choice 😉
-bake for 45 minutes or until hard and crisp.
-feed to your furry friend and watch them enjoy!
told ya it was easy!
these cookies are the perfect fall treat for furbabies.
check back next week for some more fall sweet treats–for humans!
(leo approves this message!)
it’s the best time of the month again…
a little behind? what’s birchbox?
for just $10 a month, this fabulous company sends you 4-5 high end beauty samples.
and! now birchbox gives you the option to choose one of the samples you get in each box.
pretty cool, no?
as usual, i liked my box.
i can’t say there was ever a month that i really really detested my box.
good job birchbox!
in my september birchbox i recieved samples of:
-acure organics day cream:: i have very sensitive skin so i’m always hesitant to try skincare products but i really liked this cream! it left my skin feeling soft and not heavy like some creams do.
-davines oi conditioner:: awful. really really REALLY bad. the scent of this conditioner is horrible. great product but i used it once and threw it away because it smelled that bad. bummer because i also got a sample of oi shampoo and oil as a bonus with this product but i honestly threw them all away. very disappointed.
-harvey prince ageless liquid loofa:: this sample, however, smelled awesome! grapefruit and vanilla is a great combo for a body wash and all other products! i got a sample of this lotion a couple boxes ago so i’m happy to have a matching body care set now!
-real chemisty luminous 3-minute peel:: if the full size wasn’t close to $50 i would absolutely buy this product. my skin felt amazing after just one use. loved it!
-temptu s/b highlighter in champagne shimmer:: i’m still pretty confused about this product so i’ve only used it on my cheeks but i really like the sun kissed glow it gave me. my make up application is pretty simple but this product will be fun to play around with!
minus my hatred for the conditioner (and shampoo and oil), this was a great box!
i’m loving all my samples!
did anyone get the same box? can you give me tips on the highlighter?
hope to hear from you!
we all know that i’m head over heels in love with birchbox, a monthly beauty subscription box.
when i heard about petbox, a monthly subsciption box for pets i immediatly checked it out.
i’ve heard of barkbox, another subscription box for pets, but always felt it was too expensive.
petbox is great because the plans start as low as $10!
it’s called the snack plan and that’s the one i decided to try.
leo got a bag of beef jerky bars, a bottle of wound and skin care spray and a little single use wipe container.
i really like how they include samples in with every box.
such a great way to try new products.
we’re already anxious for our october box!
for more info on petbox or to sign up click here.
you can call me anything and everything but a runner.
which sucks because i’ve always wanted to do a color run.
when i found out that there was a color run/WALK (!!!!) in new bern, nc and that all the money raised went directly to a cancer organization, i jumped on it.
saturday j and i did our color walk and had so much fun!
it was the pefect september morning for our 1 mile walk.
we took our time and actually finished pretty much last (thankfully it wasn’t timed).
we were covered!
yay colors 4 cancer!
i’m totally stoked that i was able to finally do a color event and was able to support a great cause at the same time.
